Fix a DJI drone microSD card recognition error

Prove card compatibility and health, protect existing footage, format through the correct DJI app path, and identify a possible aircraft-slot fault.

Direct answer

The shortest reliable path.

Do not format the card until required footage is backed up. Confirm the exact aircraft model’s supported-card list and use a compatible microSD card; DJI recommends UHS-I Speed Class 3 or above in its general camera-drone procedure. Test the card in another reader or device. If it fails there, replace it. If it works, back up its data, format it from the aircraft’s camera settings in DJI Fly or DJI GO 4, and retest. If multiple compatible cards fail only in the aircraft, contact DJI Support.

Scope before steps.

Applies to

DJI camera drones whose app reports a microSD card error after a card is inserted.

Does not cover

Recovering deleted footage, counterfeit-card identification, card recommendations for an unspecified aircraft, or repairing a damaged card slot.

Procedure

Do this in order.

  1. 01

    Verify model-specific compatibility

Check DJI’s supported or recommended storage-card list for the exact aircraft. Use a compatible card; DJI’s general procedure recommends UHS-I Speed Class 3 or above.

  2. 02

Test the card outside the aircraft

With the aircraft powered off, remove the card and test it in another reader or device. Copy and open important footage if it remains readable.

  3. 03

Back up, then format from the aircraft path

After a verified backup, reinsert the card and format it from Camera settings in DJI Fly or the corresponding format control in DJI GO 4. Reset camera parameters only if the official path for the product calls for it.

  4. 04

    Cross-test a second supported card

Insert a second known-good compatible card and make a short noncritical recording. If both supported cards fail only in the aircraft, stop testing and contact DJI Support.

Stop conditions

Know when not to keep changing things.

  • Do not format until important footage is backed up and verified.
  • Do not insert tools or liquids into the aircraft card slot.
  • Stop using a cracked, overheated, physically damaged, or repeatedly corrupting card.
