Fix a Roomba AutoEmpty dock that will not empty the bin

First prove the AutoEmpty dock has power and that the robot has a dust bin with an evacuation port. Reboot the dock and robot, then use the supported manual or app evacuation control for that model. If manual emptying works but the app control is missing, clean the dock sensor window and robot bumper. A solid red or white dock light points to a bag, lid, or wrong-bin issue; flashing red points to a clog. Do not force an evacuation on models that do not support it.

Procedure

Do this in order.

  1. 01

    Prove dock power

    Reseat the line cord at the wall and dock without pulling it tight around the cord wrap. Test the outlet with another device and watch the dock light behavior.

  2. 02

    Confirm the evacuation bin

    Remove the robot bin and verify it has the evacuation port required by the AutoEmpty dock. Reinstall it fully.

  3. 03

    Reboot and run the supported test

    Unplug the dock briefly, reconnect it, and reboot the robot using iRobot’s model-specific method. With the robot docked, try the app control or the supported robot-button command only for that model.

  4. 04

    Follow the light and symptom branch

    For a missing app control, wipe the dock sensor window and robot bumper with a clean dry cloth. For solid red or white, reseat or replace the bag and close the lid firmly. For flashing red or repeated evacuation, unplug the dock and clear the documented evacuation port and tube path.

  5. 05

    Clean only approved surfaces

    Use a lightly dampened melamine foam or clean cloth only on charging contacts, and a clean dry cloth on sensor windows. Retest evacuation once.

  • Do not force an evacuation on Roomba 100/1000 or other models whose official instructions say no forced command is available.
  • Do not open, tilt, or clear the dock tube while it is connected to power.
  • Stop using a damaged cord or wet dock and contact iRobot rather than applying household cleaners or compressed liquid sprays.
