Start with the source device, dock or monitor, and charger requirements; then choose a cable that meets every required function. Under USB-IF’s current certification rules, USB-C-to-USB-C cables are marked 60W or 240W, and certified cables faster than USB 2.0 also carry their supported data rate. For USB-C display use, the computer or phone must support DisplayPort Alt Mode and the cable must be full-featured for that path. A certified cable cannot add video, charging power, or data speed that either connected device does not support.

Choose a certified USB-C-to-USB-C cable marked 60W or 240W at or above the device and charger requirement.

Match the data-rate marking
For storage, docks, or other high-speed data, require the needed certified data-rate logo; do not treat an unmarked USB 2.0 cable as high speed.

Confirm DisplayPort Alt Mode in the source documentation and use the monitor or dock maker’s stated full-featured or certified cable requirement.
