Find a Chromecast or Google TV Streamer missing in Google Home

Check router range, setup-device band support, visible or hidden SSID, reboots, app state, local permissions, AP isolation, and factory reset last.

Direct answer

The shortest reliable path.

Set up near the router with strong Wi-Fi, and make sure the phone supports 5 GHz when that is the chosen band. If the network name is hidden, enter its SSID, security type, and password manually. Reboot the router, unplug the streamer for one minute, and force-close Google Home. Keep the setup device within 15–20 feet, check the white flashing setup LED and “Set me up” screen, enable Bluetooth and Local Network on iPhone or iPad, and try another phone before factory reset.

Scope before steps.

Applies to

Chromecast and Google TV Streamer devices that do not appear in Google Home during setup or whose intended Wi-Fi network is missing from the setup list.

Does not cover

A previously configured streamer that later loses Wi-Fi, television no-signal faults, voice-remote pairing, router administration beyond documented settings, or streaming-app account problems.

Procedure

Do this in order.

  1. 01

Prove range, band, and network visibility

Use strong Wi-Fi near the router. For 5 GHz setup, confirm the phone supports 5 GHz. Check whether the SSID appears on another unconnected device; if hidden, choose Other in Google Home and enter the network name, security type, and password manually.

  2. 02

    Restart router, streamer, and app

Reboot the router, unplug the Chromecast or Google TV Streamer for one minute, reconnect it, then force-close and reopen Google Home.

  3. 03

    Verify setup-state evidence and permissions

Check for the expected white flashing LED, Set me up on the TV, nearby networks, and working internet. On iPhone or iPad, turn on Bluetooth and Google Home Local Network access; on supported Android setup paths, enable required location access.

  4. 04

Change the setup client before reset

Toggle setup-device Wi-Fi, reinstall Google Home when appropriate, try another supported phone or tablet, connect manually to the streamer SSID, and disable router AP isolation. Factory-reset only if these documented branches fail.

Stop conditions

Know when not to keep changing things.

  • Do not factory-reset before trying the reversible app, permission, direct-SSID, alternate-client, and AP-isolation checks.
  • Do not guess a hidden network’s security type or password; obtain it from the router administrator or ISP.
  • Contact Google support when the device shows the documented setup state but remains undiscoverable from two supported clients on a proven local network.
