Fix a DJI drone and remote controller that will not link
Separate phone-to-controller setup from controller-to-aircraft linking, then align firmware and retry at close range.
Direct answer
The shortest reliable path.
First confirm the mobile device can communicate with the controller, then power on both the controller and aircraft with charged batteries. In DJI Fly, open the camera view and choose Control → Re-pair to Aircraft (Link), then hold the aircraft power button for more than four seconds when instructed. Keep the two devices close and align firmware versions if linking still fails.

Scope before steps.
Supported DJI aircraft and remote controllers using DJI Fly; exact menu names and LED behavior vary by product family.
Flight authorization, account activation, crash damage, unsupported controller-aircraft combinations, or component-level radio repair.
Procedure
Do this in order.
- 01
Separate the two wireless links
Confirm DJI Fly can see the controller or that the screen-equipped controller operates normally before attempting aircraft linking.
- 02
Restart with charged endpoints
Power off the aircraft and controller, restart both, and place them close together away from dense wireless equipment.
- 03
Start linking in DJI Fly
From camera view, open the settings menu, choose Control, and select Re-pair to Aircraft (Link).
- 04
Put the aircraft into link mode
With the aircraft powered on, hold its power button for more than four seconds or follow the exact model instruction until the link indication begins.
- 05
Align firmware when linking fails
Use DJI Fly or the supported DJI Assistant software to update or refresh compatible firmware on the aircraft and controller, then repeat linking.
Diagnostic matrix
Read the result, not the guess.
| What you see | Check next | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| DJI Fly does not see the controller | Troubleshoot the phone cable, port, app permission, or controller screen first. | The failure is upstream of the aircraft radio link. |
| The aircraft never enters link mode | Verify the model-specific button timing and battery state. | The controller cannot complete linking without an advertising aircraft. |
| Linking began after a replacement or repair | Confirm the replacement controller and firmware branch support the aircraft. | Compatibility and firmware deserve priority over repeated button attempts. |
| Controller status becomes solid green | Confirm camera view and telemetry before reinstalling propellers or moving outdoors. | The radio link has completed; perform safe preflight checks next. |
Stop conditions
Know when not to keep changing things.
- Do not troubleshoot a powered aircraft with installed propellers near people or loose objects.
- Do not interrupt firmware installation or use firmware intended for a different product.
- Contact DJI after compatibility, power, link mode, and matched firmware are verified but the link still fails.
