Connect an Epson printer with Smart Panel before using AirPrint

Complete the printer’s network setup first, then prove the phone and printer share the same network before debugging AirPrint discovery.

Direct answer

The shortest reliable path.

Finish initial printer and ink setup, connect the phone to the intended Wi-Fi network, and use Epson Smart Panel to add the printer. If the app cannot find it nearby, connect the printer through its control panel, then choose the Smart Panel option for a product already connected to Wi-Fi. Test Epson discovery before treating AirPrint as the first failure.

Scope before steps.

Applies to

Epson printers supported by Epson Smart Panel when being added from an iPhone, iPad, or Android device and prepared for network printing.

Does not cover

Every Epson control-panel layout, enterprise networks that isolate clients, USB-only printers, or unsupported AirPrint models.

Procedure

Do this in order.

  1. 01

    Start from a ready printer

Power on the printer, clear hardware or ink prompts, and confirm it is ready before opening the app.

  2. 02

Add it in Epson Smart Panel

Open Smart Panel and follow automatic discovery, or use the plus control and Start Setting Up when it is not detected automatically.

  3. 03

Use the printer control panel as the fallback

If the product still does not appear, connect it to Wi-Fi from its control panel, then select the Smart Panel path for a printer already connected to Wi-Fi.

  4. 04

    Prove same-network printing

Print from Smart Panel, then test AirPrint from an Apple device on the same network if the exact Epson model supports AirPrint.

Stop conditions

Know when not to keep changing things.

  • Do not factory-reset the printer before recording its current network and ink state.
  • Do not assume all Epson printers support AirPrint; verify the exact model.
  • Stop credential retries after repeated authentication failures and confirm the network password independently.
