Fix a HomePod that shows No Response in the Home app
Read the Home app alert, check the speaker’s Wi-Fi signal, restart it safely, and reserve a factory reset for the end of the path.
Direct answer
The shortest reliable path.
Open the HomePod in the Home app and read any alert before changing settings. Check its reported Wi-Fi network and signal, move it closer to the router if the indicator shows two bars or fewer, then restart it from the Home app. If Restart is unavailable, unplug and reconnect power. Reset HomePod only after those checks fail.

Scope before steps.
HomePod and HomePod mini speakers that appear in Apple Home but show No Response or fail to answer.
Apple Account ownership disputes, unsupported managed networks, stereo-pair design choices, or hardware repair.
Procedure
Do this in order.
- 01
Read the Home app alert
Open Home, select the HomePod, and inspect the alert and settings before restarting anything.
- 02
Check the live Wi-Fi path
Scroll to Wi-Fi Network and inspect the network name and signal indicator. If it shows two bars or fewer, move the speaker closer to the router and reduce interference.
- 03
Restart from Home first
Choose Reset HomePod, then Restart HomePod. For a stereo pair, use the restart option for the pair.
- 04
Power-cycle when Restart is missing
Unplug HomePod from power, reconnect it, and allow it to finish starting before checking Home again.
- 05
Reset only as the final software step
If the speaker still does not respond, follow Apple’s model-appropriate Home app or manual factory-reset procedure, then set it up again.
Diagnostic matrix
Read the result, not the guess.
| What you see | Check next | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Home shows a specific account or network alert | Follow that alert before using a generic reset. | The Home app has already narrowed the failed layer. |
| Signal shows two bars or fewer | Test closer to the router with interference reduced. | Apple classifies the HomePod Wi-Fi signal as weak. |
| Restart fixes the speaker temporarily | Recheck signal and whether the router or captive network blocks peer-to-peer traffic. | Power is present, but the installed network path may be unstable. |
| No light or startup response appears after power is restored | Verify the outlet and power connection without opening the speaker. | The problem is no longer limited to Home app communication. |
Stop conditions
Know when not to keep changing things.
- Disconnect a speaker that is wet, damaged, unusually hot, or smells abnormal.
- Do not reset or remove a HomePod managed by an Apple Account you do not control.
- Arrange Apple service if stable power and the documented restart/reset path produce no response.
