Fix an eero red light by locating the failed network hop
Use the app, LED pattern, gateway role, modem link, WAN address, ISP settings, and DNS result to find where the network stopped.
Direct answer
The shortest reliable path.
A solid red eero is offline. First check whether every eero or only one node is red, then open the eero app and run its connection troubleshooting. For an all-network outage, prove modem or ONT service, the Ethernet cable to the gateway, and the ISP handoff before changing mesh placement. For one red node, move or wire that node after confirming the rest of the network is online.

Scope before steps.
eero networks where the gateway or a mesh node shows a solid red LED or the app reports the network offline.
eero Signal cellular LED codes, damaged power hardware, enterprise switching, or unsupported ISP authentication changes.
Procedure
Do this in order.
- 01
Use the app diagnosis
Connect the phone to the eero Wi-Fi if available, open Home, and follow the red Offline troubleshooting prompt.
- 02
Separate one node from the whole network
If only one node is red, test its power and placement. If every node is red, continue at the gateway and modem.
- 03
Prove the modem handoff
Leave only the gateway Ethernet connection at the modem or ONT and reseat both ends of a known-good cable.
- 04
Restart upstream before downstream
Power down the modem or ONT for the interval documented by eero, restore it fully, then restart the gateway and wait for solid white.
- 05
Read the remaining WAN failure
Use the app result to check ISP outage, VLAN, static IP, PPPoE, default-router, or DNS requirements with the ISP.
Diagnostic matrix
Read the result, not the guess.
| What you see | Check next | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| All eeros are red | Inspect modem service, gateway Ethernet, and the app WAN diagnosis. | The shared upstream path is more likely than every mesh node failing. |
| Only one wireless node is red | Move it closer or test Ethernet and known-good power. | The gateway is online; this node has lost mesh or local power connectivity. |
| WAN IP is missing | Check the ISP outage and modem or ONT handoff. | The gateway has not received a usable provider address. |
| WAN exists but DNS fails | Review ISP or third-party security DNS handling. | The link is up, but name resolution prevents normal internet use. |
Stop conditions
Know when not to keep changing things.
- Do not factory-reset the eero network before the modem, Ethernet handoff, and ISP state are recorded.
- Do not change VLAN, PPPoE, or static addressing without the ISP’s exact values.
- Escalate when a known-good gateway cable and restored ISP service still cannot produce a WAN address.
