Fix an Insta360 X Series “No SD Card” message

Verify the required card class and format, test the card outside the camera, and separate failed media from a camera fault.

Direct answer

The shortest reliable path.

Use a microSD or TF card that meets Insta360’s UHS-I, V30, and exFAT requirements. Test the current card in another phone, computer, or camera. If no device recognizes it, replace the card with a compatible one. If other devices recognize it but the X Series camera does not, or a new compatible card also fails, Insta360 directs the camera to repair diagnostics.

Applies to

Insta360 ONE X, X2, X3, X4, X4 Air, and X5 cameras that display No SD Card or fail to recognize installed storage.

Does not cover

Recovering files from a damaged card, card-capacity limits outside the cited support page, formatting before backup, write-speed errors during recording, or physical camera repair.

Procedure

Do this in order.

  1. 01

    Match Insta360’s card requirements

Confirm the card is microSD or TF, UHS-I, V30 speed class, and formatted as exFAT.

  2. 02

Test the card outside the camera

Insert the current card into a compatible phone, computer, or another camera and check whether that device recognizes it.

  3. 03

Replace only a card that fails elsewhere

If the card is not recognized in the second device, replace it with a new UHS-I V30 exFAT card that is independently recognized before inserting it into the camera.

  4. 04

    Escalate a camera-specific failure

If the original card works elsewhere, is recognized only intermittently by the camera, or a new proven-compatible card also fails, apply for Insta360 Repair Service.

The card is not UHS-I V30 or exFATReplace or, after backup, prepare media that meets every listed requirement. The test card does not satisfy the official compatibility baseline.
No other device recognizes the cardDo not rely on it for new recordings; replace it and preserve recovery options if footage matters. The evidence points to damaged media rather than an X Series-only fault.
Two proven-compatible cards work elsewhere but not in the cameraRecord the camera model and message and request Insta360 repair.Card compatibility and basic media health no longer explain the failure.

Stop conditions

Know when not to keep changing things.

  • Do not format, initialize, or overwrite a card that contains the only copy of important footage.
  • Do not force a damaged card or adapter into the camera slot.
  • Stop substituting cards and request repair after a new, independently recognized UHS-I V30 exFAT card also fails.
