Choose the cable and adapter for iPhone fast charging

Match the iPhone connector generation to a USB-C cable and a USB Power Delivery adapter instead of judging a charger by connector shape alone.

Direct answer

The shortest reliable path.

For wired fast charging, Apple specifies a USB-C cable for iPhone 15 or later, or a USB-C-to-Lightning cable for earlier compatible models, plus an Apple USB-C adapter of the required wattage or a comparable third-party USB Power Delivery adapter. A USB-C connector alone does not prove USB-PD support or the required power.

Procedure

Do this in order.

    Match the device-side connector

    Use USB-C to USB-C for iPhone 15 or later, or USB-C to Lightning for an earlier fast-charge-capable iPhone.

  2. 02

    Verify USB Power Delivery

    Choose an Apple USB-C power adapter listed by Apple or a third-party USB-C adapter whose specifications explicitly include USB-PD.

  3. 03

    Check the current model-specific wattage

    Use Apple’s current fast-charge table for the exact iPhone rather than applying one wattage claim to every generation.

  4. 04

    Test under ordinary temperature conditions

    Charge from a low battery level with the phone at a normal temperature and avoid a heavy workload during the comparison.

Stop conditions

Know when not to keep changing things.

  • Stop using a cable or adapter that is damaged, unusually hot, or intermittently loses power when untouched.
  • Do not promise Apple’s laboratory charge times as a guaranteed result in ordinary use.
  • Seek service when multiple known-good cables and adapters fail after the port is inspected safely.
