Connect a Roomba that fails Wi-Fi setup

Choose the correct iRobot app, permissions, and band for the exact model before using a hotspot to isolate the home network.

Direct answer

The shortest reliable path.

Identify the exact Roomba series and use the app iRobot assigns to it. Update the app, enable Bluetooth and requested location access, put the phone on the network the robot should use, and check iRobot’s table for 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz support. Follow the model-specific button prompt in the app. If setup completes but immediately shows Unable to Connect, use Product Settings > Wi-Fi Settings > Reconnect or Change Product Wi-Fi.

Applies to

Wi-Fi-capable Roomba models covered by iRobot’s current Roomba Home App or classic iRobot HOME App setup articles.

Does not cover

Models below Roomba 670 without Wi-Fi, account ownership transfer, dock charging faults, enterprise networks, firewall administration, or unsupported tablet setup.

Procedure

Do this in order.

  1. 01

    Choose the app by model

Use iRobot’s model list to choose Roomba Home App for its newer series or the classic iRobot HOME App for supported legacy models.

  2. 02

    Enable the discovery permissions

Turn on Bluetooth and grant the location or precise-location access requested during setup, then keep the phone near the robot.

  3. 03

Use a band the exact robot supports

Connect the phone to the intended home network and compare the robot series with iRobot’s 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz table before selecting the SSID.

  4. 04

    Follow the model-specific activation prompt

Use the buttons shown by the app to activate the robot’s setup connection, enter the Wi-Fi credentials manually, and stay on the setup screen until it completes.

  5. 05

Reconnect after an immediate cloud error

If setup finishes but the app immediately shows Roomba Cannot Connect Right Now or Unable to Connect, open Product Settings > Wi-Fi Settings > Reconnect or Change Product Wi-Fi and enter the password again.

Stop conditions

Know when not to keep changing things.

  • Do not factory-reset a robot merely because the wrong app, permission, or Wi-Fi band was selected.
  • Do not copy a button-reset sequence from another Roomba series; use the exact model prompt.
  • Contact iRobot when a powered supported model cannot enter its documented setup state or fails both compatible home and hotspot tests.
