Will this Apple Watch band fit? Check the 42 mm label

Find the band’s product name or part number and open its Apple Store compatibility section. Do this for every band marked 42 mm because Apple currently uses that number in records that list different compatible case groups.

The number alone no longer resolves every 42 mm purchase. The exact product record gives a model list for the band being sold.

If the current product page lists 38 mm, 40 mm, 41 mm, and 42 mm watches, use it only with that listed group. If an older 42 mm band has no current product page, Apple’s general support page groups 42 mm with 44 mm and 45 mm; do not assume the two 42 mm labels describe the same connector family.

Apple lists 46 mm bands with 44 mm, 45 mm, and 46 mm cases. It lists 49 mm bands with 44 mm, 45 mm, or 46 mm cases and the reverse relationship for 44 mm, 45 mm, or 46 mm bands on 49 mm cases.

The larger-case families overlap, but the product and activity limits still need separate checks.

Confirm the band’s stated wrist range. On Apple Watch Ultra, use 44 mm, 45 mm, or 46 mm bands only for casual everyday wear. Apple identifies 49 mm Ocean Band, Alpine Loop, and Trail Loop models for rugged activities.

A connector match does not prove that the band fits the wrist or suits the activity.

Place the watch face down on a soft clean surface. Hold the band release button while removing the old band. Slide the new band in with its text facing you until you feel and hear a click, then confirm it does not slide freely.

Apple says not to wear the watch if the band slides and not to force a connector into the slot.
