Diagnose a DJI drone that will not take off

Read the exact prompt in the DJI app before restarting anything. If no prompt appears, connect the phone or screen controller to the internet, update the aircraft firmware and DJI app, then check the map for a restricted zone. Power the aircraft off before checking that every propeller is mounted in the correct position. If the motors start, confirm each turns normally; if Beginner or Tutorial mode is active, move to an open area with a strong GPS signal or leave that mode before retrying.

Procedure

Do this in order.

  1. 01

    Preserve the first diagnostic clue

    Open the camera view and record every takeoff, activation, firmware, GEO, GPS, battery, or motor warning before changing settings.

  2. 02

    Bring the supported software path current

    If the aircraft gives no useful prompt, connect the phone or screen controller to the internet, install the current aircraft firmware, and update the official DJI app.

  3. 03

    Check the location and flight mode

    Open the in-app map and check whether the aircraft is in a restricted zone. If Beginner or Tutorial mode is active, use an open outdoor location and wait for a strong GPS signal before retrying.

  4. 04

    Inspect propulsion with power removed

    Power off the aircraft, verify that every propeller is installed in its specified position and is undamaged, then place the aircraft on a clear level surface. Start the motors only from a safe distance and observe whether each rotates normally.
