Fix DJI Mini 4 Pro Return to Home when it will not come back

Separate a missing Home Point, a close-range immediate landing, a cancelled low-battery RTH, and a signal-lost action that is not set to RTH.

The shortest reliable path.

RTH only returns to the last recorded Home Point when positioning is good. After takeoff, hover until DJI Fly reports Home Point updated, set RTH altitude above surrounding obstacles, and set signal-lost action to RTH if you want Failsafe RTH. Failsafe RTH needs that setting, a recorded Home Point, and a normally functioning compass, and it starts after more than six seconds of lost remote-controller signal. If RTH begins less than 5 m from Home Point, Mini 4 Pro lands immediately. Do not cancel a low-battery RTH unless you can land immediately; a later forced descent cannot be cancelled.

Does not cover

Other DJI families’ different failsafe timers, indoor flight without GNSS, GEO-zone routing, repairing a crashed aircraft, or treating RTH as a substitute for planning a clear return path.

Do this in order.

01
Confirm Home Point and compass before the next launch
On DJI Fly Safety, confirm Compass is normal and that a Home Point exists. After takeoff, hover until the app reports Home Point updated before leaving the pad.

Confirm Home Point, compass, and IMU on Safety
This official DJI Fly Safety still identifies Home Point, compass, and IMU before a launch. It does not show the RTH button hold or the in-flight path.
Look for
If Compass is not normal or Home Point has not updated after takeoff, Failsafe RTH is not the documented Mini 4 Pro path.

Set RTH altitude and signal-lost action
In DJI Fly Settings > Safety, set RTH altitude higher than obstacles around the flying area and set the aircraft action when the remote-controller signal is lost to RTH, land, or hover. Choose RTH if you want Failsafe RTH.

Look for
Match RTH altitude above obstacles and the signal-lost action before treating a hover or immediate landing as a broken aircraft.

Know the three Mini 4 Pro triggers
Trigger Smart RTH from DJI Fly or by pressing and holding the remote RTH button until it beeps. Treat a low-battery countdown as a return, not an optional warning. Expect Failsafe RTH only after more than six seconds of lost remote-controller signal when the preconditions above are met.

Read a close-range or low-battery result correctly
If RTH starts less than 5 m from Home Point, expect an immediate landing. If you cancel low-battery RTH, land at once; when the battery can only support descent, Mini 4 Pro auto-lands and that landing cannot be cancelled.

Exit only when you can fly the aircraft yourself
If the control link is good, tap the DJI Fly exit control or press the RTH button to stop RTH and take over. Continue only when you can control the aircraft and complete the landing yourself.

Read the result, not the guess.

Aircraft lands as soon as RTH is pressed	Measure horizontal distance to the recorded Home Point.	Mini 4 Pro lands immediately when RTH distance is less than 5 m. That is specified behavior, not a missing Home Point.
Signal was lost but the aircraft hovered or landed instead of returning	Read Settings > Safety > Advanced Safety Settings for the signal-lost action, and confirm Home Point and compass were valid.	Failsafe RTH is not armed unless the action is RTH and those preconditions are met.
Low-battery RTH was cancelled and the aircraft then descended on its own	Use pitch and roll to move horizontally and throttle to manage descent speed; do not hold throttle up until the pack is empty.	DJI documents a later forced landing that cannot be cancelled. Holding climb until empty is the stated fall hazard.
Lighting is poor or vision systems are not working during failsafe	Expect Original Route then Preset RTH: more than 50 m flies backward 50 m on the original route; 5–50 m flies straight at the current altitude; under 5 m lands immediately.	Advanced path planning is not the Mini 4 Pro failsafe path when vision conditions are unsuitable.

Stop conditions

Know when not to keep changing things.

Do not cancel low-battery RTH unless you can land immediately in a clear area.
Do not keep pushing the throttle up during a forced low-battery descent until the battery is empty; DJI states the aircraft will fall.

Before you start

Prepare the test.

Keep a clear landing area and do not wait for signal loss or critical battery before checking the RTH setup.
Note whether DJI Fly already recorded a Home Point, the current RTH altitude, and the signal-lost action.
Confirm compass status on the Safety page before relying on Failsafe RTH.
Do not wait until a critically low battery to learn whether RTH is armed.
