iPhone Duo or iPhone 18 Pro: what would you actually use?

Duo makes the strongest case when you repeatedly switch between information and an action: a document and a reply, two shopping pages, or a call and shared material. Apple lists side-by-side apps and two Safari windows. Write down your own app pair, then check whether those apps work the way you need. A larger screen by itself is not proof.

If you mainly send short messages, navigate, and take photos, keep your current phone or consider 18 Pro. Do not pay for a new habit you cannot name.

Duo has main and ultra-wide cameras, with optical-quality 2x from the main camera. The 18 Pro adds a dedicated 4x telephoto and optical-quality 8x. Look at photos you actually keep: distant people, sports, and wildlife make reach a different purchase criterion from reading space. We cannot rank the image quality without comparable photography tests.

For an iPhone 14 or 15 Pro owner, inspect your existing camera use rather than assuming either new name wins. For a 16 or 17 Pro owner whose camera and battery still meet the job, keeping the phone is the default until a specific missing capability earns the expense.

Apple says USB-C Apple Pencil support arrives later this year. That makes handwriting-dependent replacement a wait decision. If your iPad work depends on a keyboard, a particular app layout, or a long reading session, try that exact work on Duo before selling the tablet. Duo uses side-button Touch ID rather than the familiar Face ID routine.

A folding phone can replace a particular two-app session without replacing an entire tablet. Keep the iPad until the required app, input method, and comfort are demonstrated for your own task.

At the announced US starting prices, Duo costs $800 more than 18 Pro before tax or accessories. Apple lists DuoCase at $79 and DuoFolio at $129. Budget for a case made for the new body; a MagSafe logo does not make an old case fit. Duo lists MagSafe and Qi2, but check the charger and adapter against the charging speed you want. Verify your carrier supports eSIM before ordering.

Keep working AirPods and an Apple Watch unless an exact compatibility requirement says otherwise. Back up before moving, and keep the old iPhone intact until calls, authentication, photos, watch pairing, and essential apps are working. A trade-in discount is not savings if it forces replacement of equipment you still need.
