Fix an iPhone speaker with no sound or distorted audio
Check Silent mode, Focus, cases, blocked openings, the ringtone slider, speakerphone, reception, and the service indicator in the right order.

Turn off Silent mode and Do Not Disturb, remove the case or film, and inspect the speaker and receiver openings. Clean a blocked opening only with a clean, dry, soft-bristled brush. Move the Ringtone and Alerts slider in Settings > Sounds & Haptics: if it produces no sound or its speaker button is dimmed, Apple says the speaker may need service. If the slider works but calls crackle, compare speakerphone in another location to separate device audio from network reception.

Clear Silent and Focus states
Turn off Silent mode using the Ring/Silent switch, Action button, or Control Center as appropriate, then open Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb and turn it off for the test.

Expose and clean the openings safely
Remove cases and films, inspect the speaker opening and iPhone receiver, and use only a small, clean, dry, soft-bristled brush if cleaning is necessary.

Run the ringtone slider test
Open Settings > Sounds & Haptics and drag the Ringtone and Alerts slider back and forth several times while listening to the built-in speaker.

Separate speaker output from reception
If the slider produces sound, make a call, turn on speakerphone, and compare again later or from another location when static or crackling occurs only during calls.
