Fix a Nintendo Switch dock with no picture on the TV
Prove handheld power, reset the official AC adapter, build a direct dock-to-TV path, read the dock LED, and isolate the adapter, HDMI cable, dock, or console.
Direct answer
The shortest reliable path.
Confirm the console works in handheld mode, then disconnect every dock cable and unplug the Nintendo Switch AC adapter from both ends for at least 30 seconds. Reconnect the official adapter directly to wall power and the dock, connect HDMI directly to the TV with no soundbar or receiver, select the correct input, and dock the updated console. The dock TV-output LED determines the next branch.

Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch OLED Model using a supported Nintendo dock and TV mode.
Nintendo Switch Lite, which does not support TV mode, or third-party docks and adapters that Nintendo does not use in its isolation procedure.
Procedure
Do this in order.
- 01
Prove the console in handheld mode
Undock the console, connect the AC adapter directly, and confirm the internal screen, charging, and current system update.
- 02
Reset the AC adapter
Power off the TV, remove all dock cables, and unplug the AC adapter from the wall and dock for at least 30 seconds.
- 03
Build the direct official path
Connect HAC-002 directly to wall power and the Nintendo dock, then connect the dock directly to a TV HDMI input. Remove receivers, soundbars, switches, and video adapters.
- 04
Dock and read the LED
Select the correct TV input, seat the console facing the dock front, and observe whether the TV-output LED becomes solid green.
- 05
Swap one proven part at a time
If the LED is lit, try another TV port, HDMI cable, TV, then dock. If it is not lit, test another official adapter or dock when available.
Diagnostic matrix
Read the result, not the guess.
| What you see | Check next | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| No handheld image or power | Continue with Nintendo no-power troubleshooting. | The fault is upstream of TV mode. |
| Dock LED solid green, TV blank | Change TV input, HDMI port, cable, TV, then dock. | The dock attempts TV output; the video path or dock remains suspect. |
| Dock LED off | Recheck official adapter, wall power, dock seating, and a second supported dock. | The dock output state has not been established. |
| Second dock works | Retest the original dock with the proven adapter and HDMI cable. | The original dock is isolated as the likely fault. |
Stop conditions
Know when not to keep changing things.
- Do not test TV mode on Nintendo Switch Lite.
- Stop using any frayed, cut, kinked, unusually hot, or damaged AC adapter.
- Send the console, dock, adapter, and HDMI cable for inspection when Nintendo’s complete direct-path test still fails.
