Step 1
Find the first failed network-test line
On PS5, open Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection. On PS4, open Settings > Network > Test Internet Connection. Record the first item that does not succeed and any complete error code.
The playstation.com/connection shortcut opens a general repair entry point. The failed line tells you whether to work on the local network, internet access, or PlayStation sign-in.
Step 2
Check PlayStation only after local internet works
If Internet Connection succeeds but PlayStation Network Sign-In fails, open https://status.playstation.com/. If no incident is listed, confirm the console account is signed in. PS5 uses Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Sign In.
A service incident or signed-out account can block PlayStation Network after the console has already reached the internet.
Step 3
Rebuild Wi-Fi only when a local connection item fails
On PS5, open Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection. On PS4, open Settings > Network > Set Up Internet Connection > Use Wi-Fi > Easy. Choose the exact Wi-Fi name and enter its verified password. If the network is missing, use Set Up Manually or WPS only when the router supports it.
This fixes discovery and authentication without changing DNS, MTU, proxy, or other settings that are unrelated to a missing or rejected Wi-Fi network.

PlayStation’s current support screenshot shows saved and available networks inside Set Up Internet Connection. Choose the exact Wi-Fi name before opening Advanced Settings.
If the intended network appears, discovery is working; verify its password and security method next. If it is absent, use the documented manual or WPS option instead of inventing DNS or IP values.

PlayStation’s PS4 screen lists available Wi-Fi names after Use Wi-Fi > Easy. Select the exact network supplied by the router or administrator.
A padlock shows that the network needs a password. Seeing the network does not prove that the saved password or security method is correct.

Step 4
Compare Ethernet and another device
For PS5, choose Set Up Wired LAN > Connect. For PS4, choose Use a LAN Cable > Easy. If Wi-Fi remains necessary, move the console closer and clear obvious obstructions. When other devices also fail and the administrator approves, turn the router off for five minutes, restart it, and retest.
A working Ethernet test points to Wi-Fi. Failure across several devices points to the router or ISP instead of the console.
Step 5
Use advanced settings only for a known exception
PS5 requires IPv4 even when IPv6 is available. Ask the router maker or ISP to change an IPv6-only network. Multi-Link Operation (MLO) testing applies only to the CFI-7000 PS5 Pro model group. Recheck manual IP or DNS values only when those fields were already manual.
These are model or network exceptions. They should not replace the basic test, verified credentials, or wired comparison.

- Do not enter invented manual IP, DNS, MTU, proxy, or port-forwarding values.
- Do not factory-reset the console or router while the first failed test line is still unknown.
- Do not change administrator-controlled router settings, NAT design, or MLO without approval and a rollback record.
- Contact the ISP or router maker when several devices fail or the network is IPv6-only. Contact PlayStation Support when a complete PlayStation error code remains after the supported setup succeeds.
