Fix a Joy-Con that is not recognized when attached
Separate controller power, pairing, rail contact, orientation, and console-side faults with a controlled left-right swap test.

Update and restart the Switch, detach the Joy-Con, press its SYNC button once, then press another button and slide it onto the correct rail until it clicks. If it still is not recognized, detach and reattach it several times and compare with another known-working Joy-Con on the same side. That swap identifies whether the controller or console rail needs service.

Procedure
Do this in order.

Reset the controller state
Detach the affected Joy-Con, press the SYNC button once, then press any other button to turn it on.

Attach it in the correct orientation
Align the minus controller on the left or plus controller on the right and slide it from the top until it clicks.

Reseat the rail connection
Detach with the rear release button and attach again two or three times without forcing it.

Run a same-side swap test
Attach another known-working left or right Joy-Con to the same console rail.

Update controller firmware after recognition
When the controller becomes available, open Controllers and Sensors and run Update Controllers.
