Set up PS VR2 through the PS5 front USB-C port

Build the documented console, cable, headset, controller, lighting, and play-area path before treating setup as a hardware failure.

Direct answer

The shortest reliable path.

Update the PS5 system software, connect PS VR2 with its supplied USB-C cable to the USB-C port on the front of the PS5, and make sure the headset cable between the scope and headband is firmly inserted. Power on the console and headset, then pair each PS VR2 Sense controller by USB and follow the on-screen setup for lighting, lens position, eye tracking, and play area.

Applies to

PlayStation VR2 headsets being set up directly with a PlayStation 5 console using the supplied cable.

Does not cover

Original PlayStation VR, PS VR2 on PC, third-party extension cables, physical cable repair, or games that do not support PS VR2.

Procedure

Do this in order.

  1. 01

    Use the documented console port

Connect the PS VR2 supplied USB-C cable to the USB-C port on the front of the PS5 console.

  2. 02

    Check the headset-side connection

Make sure the headset cable between the scope and the headband is firmly inserted before powering on.

  3. 03

    Power on in setup order

Press the PS5 power button, then the power button on the PS VR2 headset, and follow the on-screen instructions with a DualSense controller.

  4. 04

Pair both Sense controllers by cable

Connect the right PS VR2 Sense controller to PS5 by USB, complete pairing, then repeat with the left controller before unplugging them.

  5. 05

    Complete visual and room calibration

Use room lighting without direct sunlight, adjust the headset and lens distance, wear both wrist straps, calibrate eye tracking, and scan a clear play area.

Stop conditions

Know when not to keep changing things.

  • Stop setup until the play area is clear of objects you could bump into or trip over.
  • Do not continue this console setup on PS4 or with software labeled only for the original PS VR; Sony lists those as incompatible with PS VR2.
  • Use PlayStation Repairs when the documented direct connection and current PS5 software still do not detect the headset.
