Check which chime can ring with a Ring doorbell

Distinguish a Ring plug-in Chime from an existing wired chime, then check the exact doorbell, transformer, region, and tested kit.

Direct answer

The shortest reliable path.

A Ring Chime, Chime Plus, or Chime Pro can be linked in the Ring app to supported cameras and doorbells at the same location. An existing in-home wired chime is a different compatibility question: Ring maintains model-specific tested lists and says Video Doorbell Wired, Peephole Cam, Wired Doorbell Plus 2nd Gen, and non-PoE Wired Doorbell Pro 3rd Gen do not use an in-home chime. Identify the exact doorbell and chime before wiring, and verify the transformer requirements for that model.

Applies to

Current Ring plug-in Chime products and North American in-home chime compatibility cases documented by Ring.

Does not cover

Unknown doorbell wiring, unsupported regions, Ring Alarm sirens, Alexa announcement setup, or electrical installation by an unqualified person.

Procedure

Do this in order.

  1. 01

    Choose the alert path

Use a Ring Chime family device for app-linked network alerts, or continue only with the exact in-home wired compatibility list for a physical chime.

  2. 02

    Exclude unsupported wired models

Check Ring’s current exclusions before opening the chime box or buying a transformer.

  3. 03

    Match the tested kit

Compare the chime manufacturer and exact model number with Ring’s list for the exact doorbell family and region.

  4. 04

Link a Ring Chime in the app

Open the target doorbell or camera, choose Linked Chimes, select ring or motion events, choose a tone, and save.

Stop conditions

Know when not to keep changing things.

  • Disconnect circuit power before touching doorbell or chime wiring.
  • Do not bridge terminals or test live wiring unless the exact official procedure and electrical competence support it.
  • Stop if transformer ratings, wire labels, or local electrical requirements are unknown.
