Fix Ring Live View or recordings that will not load

Check the feature toggle, event entitlement, encryption device, Wi-Fi signal, internet path, VPN, app state, and power cycle in an order that preserves evidence.

Direct answer

The shortest reliable path.

Confirm the Ring device is online and Live View is enabled under its Video Settings. Test both Live View and an existing recording so you know whether the failure affects the live path, stored events, or both. If End-to-End Encryption is enabled, use the enrolled phone or tablet. Check the device’s Wi-Fi signal and internet speed, update the Ring app and phone, disable VPN for the test, restart the phone, and reboot the router. If the device remains offline or unresponsive, use Ring’s model-specific power-cycle or reset instructions before setting it up again.

Check the whole path.

  3. 03Ring service and event entitlement
  4. 04Encryption and Ring app
  5. 05Live or recorded video and audio

Scope before steps.

Applies to

Ring video doorbells and security cameras whose Live View, event video, or audio does not load or performs poorly in the Ring app.

Does not cover

Recovering events that were never recorded, bypassing End-to-End Encryption, network port forwarding, alarm monitoring, or assuming every stored event is available without the required Ring plan.

Procedure

Do this in order.

  1. 01

Prove the feature and content boundary

Open Device Settings, then Video Settings, and confirm Live View is enabled. Test Live View and a previously available event separately; confirm the account has the plan required for recorded-event access.

  2. 02

    Use the enrolled encryption device

If End-to-End Encryption is enabled, test from the same phone or tablet used to enroll the Ring device before changing network settings.

  3. 03

    Prove the network path

Check the Ring device’s Wi-Fi signal in Device Health and test the home internet connection. Disable any VPN temporarily, restart the phone for 30 seconds, update the Ring app and mobile OS, then retest.

  4. 04

Restart in the least destructive order

Reboot the modem or router, allow the network to recover fully, and retest. If the Ring device remains offline or unresponsive, follow Ring’s model-specific power-cycle or factory-reset instructions before completing setup again.

What you seeCheck nextWhat it means
Live View works but old events do notVerify plan status, event timing, account, and encryption access instead of resetting the camera. The current camera and live network path work; the failure is specific to stored-event access.
Video loads after VPN is disabled or on another networkReview the original phone or network path before changing the Ring device. The camera can stream, but the original client path interfered with playback.
The device remains offline after router recoveryUse the exact model’s Ring power-cycle or reset procedure and preserve the observed Device Health state for support. The device did not rejoin the recovered network normally.

Stop conditions

Know when not to keep changing things.

  • Do not assume missing historical video can be recovered if it was never recorded under an active plan.
  • Do not factory-reset until account credentials, physical access, and the correct setup procedure are available.
  • Contact Ring Support for persistent offline status, repeated resets, heat or power damage, or video failure across multiple known-good networks and enrolled devices.
