Restore missing Ring motion alerts

Use Event History to separate missed detection from suppressed notification, then check device toggles, schedules, snooze, phone permissions, Focus mode, and online state.

Direct answer

The shortest reliable path.

First open Event History at the time an alert was missed. If a motion event exists, the camera detected it and the problem is notification delivery: turn on Motion Alerts, end Alert or Global Snooze, disable a conflicting Motion Schedule, allow Ring notifications on that phone, and check Focus or Do Not Disturb. If no event exists, turn on Motion Detection and review the device’s motion zones and sensitivity. The Ring device must also be online to deliver alerts.

Scope before steps.

Applies to

Ring video doorbells, security cameras, and supported smart-lighting devices that stop delivering expected motion notifications.

Does not cover

Guaranteeing detection of every event, cellular-provider notification failures, alarm-system dispatch, subscription billing, or changing surveillance laws and privacy obligations.

Procedure

Do this in order.

  1. 01

    Separate detection from delivery

Open Event History and look at the exact time of the missed alert. Note whether a motion event was recorded or no event exists.

  2. 02

    Verify the three device controls

Open the device in the Ring app and confirm Motion Detection and Motion Alerts are on; for a doorbell, also confirm the desired Ring Alerts setting.

  3. 03

    Remove intentional quiet periods

Review Motion Schedules, per-device Alert Snooze, and Global Snooze. End or adjust any period that covers the missed event.

  4. 04

    Check each receiving phone independently

Allow notifications for the Ring app in that phone’s system settings and turn off any Focus or Do Not Disturb rule that excludes Ring. Repeat on every phone expected to receive alerts.

Stop conditions

Know when not to keep changing things.

  • Do not maximize sensitivity before proving whether the event was detected or merely not notified.
  • Do not rely on a consumer camera notification as the only protection for an immediate life-safety risk.
  • Contact Ring Support if the online device detects events but multiple correctly configured phones still receive no alerts.
