Choose OLED for controlled light and deep blacks

Samsung points OLED shoppers toward deep blacks, contrast, slim design, and dark-room or cinematic viewing. In an OLED, each pixel makes its own light and can switch off. That is the reason to choose the family.

The benefit is easiest to value in a room where stray light does not overpower the screen. We have not measured these TVs.

Choose Neo QLED for a bright room or larger size

Samsung describes Neo QLED as an LCD television with a Mini LED backlight, quantum dots, and local dimming. It points this family toward brighter rooms, larger sizes, and shoppers who want improved contrast over traditional LED without choosing OLED.

If the television faces windows or stays in a bright shared room, this is the more useful place to start.

Compare the exact series after the room decision

QN80H lists NQ4 AI Gen2 and Motion Xcelerator 144Hz. S95H and S90H list NQ4 AI Gen3 and Motion Xcelerator 165Hz. These are model-package differences, not an overall score. A 165 Hz ceiling has no benefit when the source and game deliver 60 fps.

The exact model matters, but it should not distract from the room-light and panel choice.

What still depends on your situation

If OLED wins, compare S95H with S90H next

S95H and S90H differ in Samsung’s HDR tier, speaker system, design, and Wireless One Connect support. Finish that model choice on the dedicated comparison page. Leave picture modes, Game Mode, and eARC setup until you know which TV you are buying.

Separating the family choice from the model choice keeps the decision manageable.
