What changes when you use it

HERO13 Black gives you a 5.3K tier and HB-Series lenses. Action 5 Pro gives you twice the published uncased depth and a larger still-photo file. Those differences matter only when they change a shot you plan to make.

These are not comparable runtimes. DJI turns the screens and Wi-Fi off for its 1080p24 claim; GoPro publishes different mode conditions.

Choose the still-photo workflow you need

DJI lists a 1/1.3-inch sensor and 7296×5472 stills, or about 40 MP. GoPro lists 27 MP at 5568×4872 in an 8:7 frame. Choose DJI when the larger published still file helps your crop. Choose GoPro when its 8:7 capture and lens options fit your edit.

Neither number proves better image quality. It tells you what kind of file enters your workflow.

HERO13 adds 5.3K; both cameras list 4K120

HERO13 Black records 5.3K at up to 60 fps and 4K at up to 120 fps. Action 5 Pro lists 4K in 16:9 or 4:3 at up to 120 fps, but no 5.3K mode. If you deliver in 4K, HERO13’s 5.3K file can give you more room to crop or stabilize in the edit.

Do not pay for 5.3K unless that extra reframing room has a job in your edit.

Action 5 Pro goes deeper before you add a case

GoPro rates HERO13 Black to 10 m / 33 ft without housing. DJI rates Action 5 Pro to 20 m without its case. Both makers list 60 m with their matching housing or case. Close every door and cover before the camera enters water.

If you regularly go beyond 10 m, DJI lets you leave the case behind for more dives. Above 20 m, both need the right housing.

Your existing mounts can decide the cheaper system

HERO13 Black recognizes GoPro’s HB-Series Ultra Wide, Macro, ND, and Anamorphic lenses. Action 5 Pro uses DJI’s Action mounting system. Before you switch brands, price every mount, lens, cage, and adapter you would replace.

A camera that costs less can become the more expensive choice once you rebuild the kit around it.

Do not turn different battery tests into a winner

DJI’s 240-minute claim uses 1080p24, RockSteady on, Wi-Fi off, and both screens off at 25°C. GoPro publishes runtimes by recording mode under its own radio and stabilization conditions. The numbers do not describe the same workload.

Plan batteries around your resolution, frame rate, screen use, temperature, and clip length—not the largest marketing number.

Make the choice

Choose the situation that sounds like yours

You need 5.3K60 or GoPro Burst Slo-Mo frame ratesLean toward HERO13 Black when those GoPro-documented modes are required.

DJI’s Action 5 Pro specs table tops out at 4K classes for standard recording, not 5.3K.

You want a published 1/1.3-inch sensor and ~40 MP stillsLean toward Osmo Action 5 Pro when DJI’s sensor and 7296×5472 stills figures matter most.

Uncased depth near 20 m matters more than 10 mLean toward Action 5 Pro’s 20 m uncased rating when that depth is required and covers are secured per DJI.
