MAX2’s United States learn page positions True 8K 360 capture with Reframe and Single-Lens Capture chapters. Choose the geometry first; resolution marketing cannot convert a framed HERO into a dual-lens 360 body.

Capture architecture is the primary published decision, not a soft feature checklist.

HERO13 Black documents 5.3K60, 4K120, 2.7K120, and 1080p240 class video plus HLG HDR, 10-bit color, and HyperSmooth 6.0. MAX2 documents True 8K 360 positioning and markets 10-bit color in 8K with high-bitrate / GP-Log callouts on the learn page. Compare published mode families; do not invent cross-model fps matrices.

Each camera’s mode ceiling is first-party and non-interchangeable.

Choose the lenses and mods you will actually buy

HERO13 Black markets HB-Series lenses with Auto-Detect as modular single-lens glass. MAX2 markets twist-and-go replaceable lenses for 360-system maintenance and FOV. Match the accessory ecosystem you will keep rather than mixing HB-Series claims onto MAX2.

Lens ecosystems follow each body’s published contract.

Apply MAX2 waterproof and Enduro callouts only to MAX2

MAX2’s learn page states waterproof to 16 ft (5 m) and includes a cold-weather Enduro battery callout. Do not reuse those depth or battery footnotes for HERO13 here; HERO13 water limits belong on HERO13-specific care guides after you choose that body.

What still depends on your situation

Plan Quik for 360 reframe versus HERO13 highlight offload

MAX2’s 360 workflow depends on Quik reframe tools after capture; HERO13 markets Quik highlight tools and Wi-Fi 6 transfer. After either purchase, use gopro-quik-pair-import-auto-upload-workflow for phone pairing and optional Auto Upload. Use gopro-hero13-black-vs-dji-osmo-action-5-pro only if brand shopping remains open.

Post-purchase app workflow is shared; 360 reframe dependency is MAX2-weighted.

Keep MISSION 1 out of this two-camera choice

Do not rank by price, influencer awards, or MISSION 1 cinema ILS. HERO13 Black remains a current single-lens action body while MISSION 1 Series is a parallel cinema line. For HERO13 first dry setup, waterproof door checks, HB-Series compatibility, or local offload, open the dedicated HERO13 neighbor guides instead of expanding this selection.
